The Public Defender met with the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe
On January 22, 2025, the Public Defender of Georgia met with the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe, Michael O'Flaherty. At the meeting, the current situation in terms of human rights protection in Georgia, the degree of protection of freedom of assembly and expression, the disproportionate force, violence and mistreatment used by law enforcement officers during the dispersal of protests were discussed. The meeting was attended by the deputies of the Public Defender Tamar Gvaramadze and Elene Ghudushauri, as well as Director of the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner Giancarlo Cardinale and Commissioner's advisors Agata Nieboi and Roemer Lemeter.
