 According to European Parliamentary Monica Holmeyer, some EU-funded NGOs supported local protests at the local level, which turned into violence. A member of the Christian Socialist Union said that some NGOs were receiving grants for lobbying. In some cases, NGOs even violated the principle of the rule of law.
